      Two very important things ...



      1. There is a loophole in a new email program that allows a

troublemaker/hacker to write in the name of the sender so that the posting

appears to come from the Whitehouse, hell, or Newt Gingrich, etc.  The

somewhat fragile integrity of email has effectively been ruined. 

      Messages may be sent to Usenet using your name and system address,

or sent to anyone the faker wants to.

      It is easy to do - 

      So if you have ANY doubts about a message, write to the person and

ask for confirmation.

      2.  There is a new "designer" drug out that is dropped into the drinks

of unsuspecting women that is a form of knock-out pill that allows the woman

to be raped without any problems.  Called "roofies" or sometimes "Ruthies" the

use has become a serious problem in several parts of the country and is

spreading rapidly.

      Although possession is illegal - sort of - there are no trafficking

violations possible at this time. 

      Florida authorities are trying to get a law passed to make possession

of ROHYPNOL, also known familiarly in South Florida as the date-rape drug,

punishable be prison terms with a maximum of 30 years for possession  

and 15- to 20-year minimum mandatory terms for trafficking.  It is a powerful

sedative.

      According to police the woman who has been given the drug is unable

to fight the rapist.  Finally the teenager of a prominent personate in Cooper 

City teen-ager has mobilized city and county officials to fight the illegal drug.

A 15-year-old, she was gang raped by three teenagers.

      So serious is the threat that police are holding neighborhood and school

seminars to warn students and parents of the drug's potency.

      The drug is widely used in Latin America to sedate surgery patients.

      In 1992 there were 11 cases involving the drug statewide; by 1995 the 

number had risen to 342, according to the Cooper City Police Department.

      Women are urged, warned, etc., not to leave their drinks untended and

to be very careful in what they eat.

      

      This ain't no joke, kids.
