THE RAPE OF WORDS AND REASON

Women have been unfairly positioned in debates. Every person who has spoken out for reproductive choice knows this. The Republicons have framed the debates and defined the terms.

This has been done through years of countless repetitions and with the eager cooperation of a media that slavishly repeats all of these carefully constructed terms without critical investigation and reporting.

If you are not "pro-life" then you are pro-death. If you are not actively speaking out against women and doctors who kill babies then you think it's O.K. to kill babies. And more recently from Bush's handmaiden, "Abortion advocates are a part of the terrorist network."

Our word, "choice," has been co-opted and turned against us. They make its meaning work for them. They say, "We agree that every woman should have a choice and we believe they already do. They can choose NOT to get pregnant."

There are some indications that women are catching on to this word twisting. They are responding that they are pro-life for women and explaining that pro-choice does not mean pro-abortion but the damage has been done. No one is listening.

Recently, women and men got to see the real price of the Bush wars when a brave woman gave this Nation its first look at the flag-draped coffins. The Bushies have made it policy not to allow "the remains" of our war dead from Afghanistan and Iraq to be reported on or photographed by the media.

Of course the real reason the Bushies do not want these coffins shown is that it brings home so acutely that our people are being killed. So they again twist the meaning of words.

"We keep the pictures of these remains from the public to protect the "privacy" of the families," they claim primly. In this context they support privacy while continuing to deny it to women and their doctors.

In addition, using the shock word "remains" rather than flag-draped coffins, may set up a feeling of revulsion in many people. Thus with one word, the Bushies makes it appear as if those who want to honor our returning heroes are advocating images of horror.

We have seen any number of "remains" during our teaching of medical anatomy and we can assure everyone that the row-on-row of flag draped coffins do not in any way resemble human remains.

The fake pictures of full term or several-month-old remains that are held up in the Senate by Senator Rick Santorum and others are meant to be disturbing even though they are false representations.

Why, we ask, do the Senators who claim to support woman's reproductive rights not show true pictures of fetuses that are mal-formed to demonstrate some real reasons for therapeutic abortion?

If you are squeamish, don't click on this URL because you will see pictures of real remains; real reasons why women and their doctors should have the right to privacy; real reasons why abortion should always be a HUMAN RIGHT. http://www.gendergappers.org/lizinfo.htm

Why don't the senators show these remains to the senate and TV viewers? Obviously because they are authentic and powerful enough to blow the misrepresented products of abortion right out of the water.

Everyone is familiar with how the Bushies have shanghai'd the words patriot and patriotism. These words now apply only to anyone who votes for Bush and supports his wars.

Anyone may protest the lies that have convinced many that Iraq invented al-Quida as well as the lies that claimed Iraq had WMD, but it is all in vain. Constant repetition has burned these lies on the psyche of an electorate that has abrogated thought.

Even our flag, "Old Glory", the once proud symbol of America that stood for tolerance, democracy and integrity has been reduced to a symbol of hate, fear, intolerance and unprovoked force.

Instead of a red white and blue banner waving freely, that stands for all Americans, it sits like a lump in the buttonholes of the Bushie A-holes who have brought unimaginable shame to it.
