BOY GEORGE "W"

BOY GEORGEIsn't it amazing how parents can pull off the most embarrassing acts?  No matter how old we get, we can nearly always count on being humbled by, as much as being loved by them.

Take former President George Herbert Walker Bush (please!)  He was brought into New Hampshire along with Mama Bush and three sibling Bushes to shore up the failing campaign of George W.  And what happened?  Dad Bush called son Bush, "BOY!"

Sure he was telling the crowd how great W was and that they should vote for him, but to call him BOY?  Needless to say, McCain took note of this.  And you can bet that the Demo- crats will pick up on that BOY Freudian slip also.

Think about it as you call yourself and other grown up, mature, successful, strong, intelligent women, GIRLS!  What's your excuse for putting down a sister and yourself that way?

But it isn't just parents that have the ability to embarrass us -- just ask the Catholic Bishop who is gathering his forces to prevent legalization of same gender marriages in Vermont.  He already has to put up with the Episcopal Bishop opposing "his" biblical interpretations and suffer the comparison because "she" is a woman.  Now an avowed ally has decided to come to Vermont and join his cause.

Trouble is this ally is none other than Randall Terry.  If you don't know that name you probably haven't been privy to the abortion wars a few years back when his band of unmerry thugs were blockading women's clinics all over the country.  Terry is a militantly anti-abortion and the founder of Operation Rescue (renamed Operation Save America).  You can check them out at: http://www.operationsaveamerica.org/index.html

Now Terry has rented a storefront at the state capital and has announced that he will organize resistance to any legislation that would allow same-gender marriage or domestic partnerships in Vermont.  "I will bring in people from around the country.  We will raise money and run ads," he said. "What the Vermont Legislature does will affect the whole country."

If you're thinking he sounds just the ticket for support the Catholic Bishop is looking for, think again.  Once Terry gets started, violence will not be far behind and churches like to keep their skirts clean. NATIONAL FREEDOM TO MARRY DAY -- FEBRUARY 12

Last time Terry visited Vermont he ran up a big tab in court fees and judgements for Operation Rescue.  He fixed it that time by dissolving O.R. and calling it Operation Save America.  To avoid dissolution this time Terry has left the group and ostensibly is on his own -- the Bishop sure doesn't want him and the embarrassment he is sure to bring with him.

Neither does another gay marriage opposition group; "Take it To the People" lovingly called "Teep" by its members who also stand to be mightily embarrassed by Terry.  It all makes for a very interesting situation.  Here are two groups of religious zealots who are united in their determination to deny all forms of birth control to women and deny equal marriage rites to lesbians and gays.

Both groups use the bible as their authority.  But here's another rub.  In two hearings before the legislature, the bible was found to have only two passages that forbade homosexuality.  Moreover, the bible also contained many other "shalt nots" that no one in the clergy or Terry's crew pays any attention to.  One of these is the biblical prohibition against wearing cloths of mixed fibers.  Yet cotton and polyester or wool and cotton, for example, are often mixed throughout the world with no condemnation by any clergy.

As for marriage related passages in the bible, they have no inpact on the same gender marriage issue since religious sanction is not demanded by the Supremes -- only state law is involved in their decision.

Thanks to a subscriber, we have the following concerning what the bible has to say about abortion.

"NOTHING anywhere in either the Old or New Testament Bibles says anything against abortion.  NOTHING.  Jesus said nothing about abortion one way or another, either.  There are a few mentions of abortion-type issues in the Bible, however:

"In Genesis: God breathed life into Adam and Even and THEN they got souls.  In other words, breathing comes before life.  Fetuses don't breathe.  That's why the Jewish religion and even many Christian religions are not anti-abortion.

"Exodus 21:22 essentially says that if two men are fighting and cause the miscarriage of a bystander pregnant woman, then the punishment is as would follow for the theft of property. Exodus 21:23 also says, however, that if the woman herself is killed, the punishment is as for murder (a life for a life.)

"Couldn't be clearer: a fetus is property, not life, and the killing of a fetus is not murder, but a harm equivalent to theft of property.

"In Numbers 5:31, God actually requires an abortion if the husband believes that the wife has been unfaithful.  The woman takes a 'potion' and if it's the husband's child she won't miscarry, but if it's the other guy's child she will.  It's not about love of "life," but men's property rights!"

        (Thanks for the info, L.)

Now, wouldn't you think those guys who have gone out of their way to prevent women from having reproductive control and prevent some people from marrying because of their sexual preference would be EMBARRASSED?  It's pointed out to them in a public hearing broadcasted to thousands of people that they don't even READ their own bibles!

Perhaps Terry had better look for an ally someplace else such as among the repugnant presidential candidates.  Hey, politics has made "stranger bedfellows."  Maybe daddy Bush really nailed it -- "Hey there, Georgie Boy???"
