THOUGHTS TO PONDER

        In 1555, Nostradamus wrote:

                  Come the millennium, month 12,
In the home of greatest power,
The village idiot will come forth
                                                                  To be acclaimed the leader...

Some of the notes on women compiled by Kenneth Grooms, 20 years ago, are listed below. GenderGapper's PERSONS OF THE YEAR are YOU and other strong women.

Ø There is a woman at the beginning of all great things. Being a woman is a terribly difficult task, since it consists principally in dealing with men.

Ø Most of what we do in life, even if we advance other reasons, is done because of women.

Ø The woman who has been given sexual freedom without real financial and social independence will find herself still bartering.

Ø Whatever women do they must do twice as well as men to be thought half as good. Luckily this is not difficult.

Ø If we would know the political and moral conditions of a state, we must ask what rank women hold in it. Their influence embraces the whole of life.

Ø Men are nervous of remarkable women. Contact with a high minded woman is good for the life of any man. Well, it's hard for a mere man to believe that a woman doesn't have equal rights.

Ø Women are the wild life of a country; morality corresponds to game laws.

Ø The dogma of woman's complete historical subjugation to men must be rated as one of the most fantastic myths ever created by the human mind. Social science affirms a woman's place in society marks the level of civilization. Women's chains have been forged by men, not by anatomy.

Ø Women are forcing their way into a system that has dehumanized men for centuries and calling this a great victory.

Ø Woman reduces us all to a common denominator. Take woman herself, the family appears as a natural object, but is actually a cultural creation.

Ø Many societies have been educating their male children on the simple device of teaching them not to be women.

Ø Women's liberation is the liberation of the feminine in the man and the masculine in the woman. Whenever you educate a man you educate an individual, when you educate a woman you educate a family.

Ø What, sir, would the people of the Earth be without women? They would be scarce, sir, almighty scarce.

Ø A man of quality is not threatened by women for equality. The woman who is known only through a man is known wrong. We should be concerned not with half of humanity, but with all of it.

Ø Let the talents of women be fully developed, and no man will lose any place he is qualified to fill.

Ø We have often felt disposed to give men credit for employing women in preference to persons of their own sex, but often the preference is given because they can be employed for less wages.

Ø The females of all species are most dangerous when they appear to retreat.

Ø If men could get pregnant, abortion would be a sacrament.

        Ø A woman's intuition is much more accurate than a man's certainty.

Ø Never send a boy to do a man's job, send a woman.

We wish all you GenderGappers a great New Year.

Remember that a large majority of women did work for, and voted for, an administration that would foster our human rights. We face troubled times because our votes were trumped by the Supreme Court.
