|A London music hall song in 1878 urged Britain to make war on Russia
to protect its interests in Constantinople. The
song gave birth to a new word - JINGOISM. It means "extreme chauvinism
or nationalism especially by a belligerent foreign policy."
The song went:
Sounds familiar, doesn't it. Talk about history repeating itself. Remember George Santayana's warning: "Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it."We don't want to go to war.
"Extreme chauvinism or nationalism especially by a belligerent foreign policy" has been the hallmark of the present government in DC. It continues to whip up patriotic fervor for war (both at home and abroad) under the guise of "a war against terrorism."
··· The "war against terrorism" is used to remove Constitutional guarantees that were previously the hallmark of the United States of America. Couldn't we have anticipated this?
··· This imperial executive goes further still. It has duped many in Congress into thinking it's necessary for our safety to go to war with Iraq even without the United Nations. That it seeks control of Iraqi oil is never mentioned but is totally obvious.
··· One of the first things the unelected president did, after taking office, was to declare war against world cooperation by pulling out of treaties with other countries and obligations toward third world women. America's moderating influence on regional conflicts disappeared as the White House turned its back on trouble spots like the Near East.
··· Then, hardly missing a beat, the administration declared war against American women. The list here is long, but here are a few initiatives that impact primarily against women. It opposed minimum wage increase and an effective patient's Bill of Rights. It continues to undermine women's right to choose as it declares the fetus an individual with rights over the woman that carries it. Women's affairs offices were closed.
··· Most egregious for the Earth is their war against the environment. Proposals to rape Alaska. Poisoned drinking water. It has diminished the ability of USDA to protect our food supply.
··· The White House mounted a war against the separation of church and state by putting religion into government positions such as the FDA. It used the euphemism "faith-based" to blackmail poor women in need of help by forcing them to deal with clergy and churches. Single, women are pressured to marry in order to qualify for aid.
Remember that simple clapping and spelling song for children?
Here's the adult version:There was a farmer had a dog,
There was a country had Gov'ment
