According to the Page-A-Day calendar, Rockland Family Shelter created the Company of Women to sell books, T-shirts, posters, and mugs, which has generated more than $250,000 for the homeless and battered women's shelter. A number of years ago I began to preach the need for liberal organizations to set up businesses to generate money for the causes other than asking the same people over and over and over again to contribute more money than most of us could afford. Needless to say, my words fell on cement and all of us are deluged by worthy organizations begging for money. Why doesn't the NAACP have a self-supporting sales group that sells black memoriabillia, or African art. Why doesn't the Feminist Foundation or the Southern Law Institute sell forms that would aid women in setting up airtight Right to Die statements for the individual states and other things that would guide women through the maze of their rights in various states. With a little imagination a lot of money could be generated... you know we are capable of buying more than t-shirts, buttons, and bumper stickers. For heaven's sake, what's wrong with making enough money to live on? ??
